The Riverbank Foundation supports selected programs of scholarship, research, education, and exhibitions centered on artists of the 19th and 20th centuries that helped shape regional identity across the continent. The Foundation works solely with non-profit institutions, scholars, and educators.

The leading project of the Riverbank Foundation is the online, public-access Catalogue Raisonné (currently in progress) of the paintings created by George Caleb Bingham (1811-1879).  Bingham is renowned today as one of the classic artists of the early American West, and his paintings rank among the nation’s greatest art treasures. The overarching goal of this project is to strengthen public and scholarly access to Bingham’s life’s work and ensure the lasting heritage of Missouri’s greatest and most pioneering artist.
